Know the price first

Send a photo, or I'll come and measure up. Clear price, no obligation.

One pair of hands

No salesman, no subcontractor turning up instead. You get me, start to finish.

Fits your walls

Scribed and set out to the room you've got, not forced out of a flat pack.

House left as found

Dust sheets down, cleared up daily, snags put right before I go.

What I do

Chances are, yours is on this list.

First fix to final finish, and skirting, architrave and flooring come as standard with most jobs. If yours isn't here, ask anyway. It usually still is.

  • Media walls & slat panelling

The TV stops being a black box with wires trailing out of it. Full-height slats, the screen recessed in flush, the fire inset below, and every cable and socket moved out of sight. Oak, walnut, or painted to match the room.

  • Internal doors & frames

No more shouldering the bedroom door shut. Hung true so they catch first time, every time, with linings, stops and ironmongery to match, and the skirting and architrave scribed back in around them so it looks like it was always there.

  • Fitted wardrobes & storage

Get back all the space you're currently wasting. Walk-ins, alcoves and awkward sloping eaves, with rails, drawers and shelving set out around what you actually own rather than whatever a flat pack happened to come with.

  • Decorative wall panelling

Turns the plainest wall in the house into the reason people notice the room. Wainscoting, shaker and picture-frame panelling, set out so every panel lands square and the gaps stay even the whole way round.

  • Staircases

Your hallway is the first thing anyone sees, and a tired staircase dates it fastest. New spindles, newel posts, handrails and cladding will lift the whole entrance more than almost anything else you could change in it.

  • Gates, fencing & outdoor

A gate that doesn't drop and start catching after one wet winter. Close-board, properly framed and braced, hung on posts set to stay where they're put. Fencing, decking and garden joinery too.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises.

01

You get a price, free

Send a photo and rough sizes, or I'll come out and measure up. You get a clear price with nothing hidden in it, and no obligation to go ahead.

02

You know what you're getting

Timber, finish and set-out all agreed before anything gets cut, so there's nothing to be surprised by once it's in and it's too late to change.

03

Your house gets looked after

Dust sheets down, tidied as I go, and I'll keep you posted as it goes on so you're never left wondering what's happening or when I'm back.

04

You sign it off, not me

We walk round it together at the end. Anything you're not happy with gets put right before I pack the van up and leave.

What customers say

Don't take my word for it.

“Highly recommend!!! Extremely professional and extremely helpful. I was definitely one of them awkward customers with lots of questions, but Jack went above and beyond to help. Jack is also very reasonably priced — would 100% recommend to anyone!”

If you were happy with it, a few words on Facebook helps the next person decide whether to trust me. It counts for more than you'd think.

Staircase part-way through a refit, with a new oak-topped handrail, spindles and newel post fitted and the treads still stripped back
Wall panelling part-built: bare timber mouldings set out on a white wall before painting
New white external door hung in a blockwork porch, with the frame made good around it
About

You'll be dealing with me. That's the whole business.

I'm Jack. JR Carpentry is just me, based in Chelmsford and working out across Braintree and the Essex towns and villages around it.

Which means the person who quotes your job is the person who turns up to do it, and the person you ring if something isn't right. Nothing gets lost between a salesman and a fitter, because there isn't one.

I'll take on all aspects of carpentry, but the jobs people usually come to me for are the ones that change how a room feels: a slat wall built around the TV and the fire, a hallway of oak doors hung dead true, a wardrobe that finally makes something of the awkward corner you've been ignoring.

  • A free price with no obligation, off a photo if that's easier for you
  • One person to deal with, from the first message to sign-off
  • Dust sheets down and your house cleared up at the end of every day
  • Houses and light commercial, one room or a whole property
Where I work

Chelmsford, Braintree & across Essex.

I'm based in Chelmsford and out to Braintree and the surrounding towns and villages most weeks. Not on the list? Ask anyway. If I can get to you, I will.
